TWO STEPS TO COMPLETE BEFORE AUDITIONS

2.       Pay one-time non - refundable registration fee: 

  • $50 before September 7th

  • $60 September 7th - September 13th

  • $65 After September 13th

AUDITION SCHEDULE

Sunday, September 13: 10:00 am – 7:00 pm

Open to both performers auditioning for the competitive team & performers attending as a clinician.  Most of the first day we will spend doing technique & learning audition routines. 

Sunday, September 20: 10:00 am – 7:00 pm

Open only to performers auditioning to be on the competitive teams.  After review, performers will audition in small groups.  All auditioning performers are required to learn at least the flag & dance audition materials. 

WHAT TO WEAR

Please wear comfortable, form-fitting, black dance or athletic wear.  Hair should be pulled back and out of the face.  Bring tennis shoes & sunscreen if we need to go outside at any point. 

WHAT TO BRING

  • Bring your own equipment if you own it.  We have a very limited supply and cannot guarantee we will have enough for everyone.

  • Bring kneepads and any wraps that are needed for support.

  • Bring water, snacks and pack a lunch.  

ELIGIBILITY

Eligibility: WGI discourages independent groups from utilizing high school students who were previously enrolled in an active high school program and have not yet graduated. As such, 2027 Vox Artium Winterguard members must be high school graduates or older. High school students may attend auditions as a clinic but will not be accepted to compete.

For the 2027 season Vox Artium Winterguard will compete in the Independent World Class both locally and attending WGI regionals & travel to Dayton, Ohio to compete at the WGI 50th Anniversary World Championships.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Auditions will be in San Diego County.  As soon as we have confirmed the site with the school district we will release this information. 

  • Auditions are open to performers who meet the age and eligibility requirements for the upcoming season.  We welcome experienced performers from a variety of backgrounds who are committed to growth, teamwork, and excellence. 

    Clinicians are also welcome to attend only on the first day of auditions, Sunday, September 13th. 

  • Although we allow minors and/or high schoolers to attend the first day of auditions as a clinician, we will not accept current high schoolers on our competitive winter guard teams.  You must be a high school graduate or older to make the team.  If you have any questions, please email voxartiumwg@gmail.com

  • No, it is not required to attend both days of auditions but highly encouraged.  On Sunday, September 13th, the first day of auditions, we will teach all the audition routines.  On the second day, September 20th, we will do a quick review and then put you into your audition groups.  The final day is required unless you have cleared it with the directors ahead of time. 

  • Yes, if you register & pay the audition fee before Sunday, September 13th you would gain access to the reference videos from the first day of auditions, regardless if you attended in person or not.

  • We only allow video auditions for extreme cases.  If you need to send in an audition video contact the director at voxartiumwg@gmail.com right away.

  • Auditions typically include a combination of movement, dance, equipment work, choreography, and evaluation exercises. You should expect to learn quickly, work collaboratively, and demonstrate your ability to take direction and adapt.

  • Performers should be comfortable demonstrating fundamental flag & movement skills.  However, we do not require performers to spin rifle and/or sabre to make the team but we encourage performers to spin weapons if they are able to.  

  • Wear black comfortable, fitted athletic clothing that allows you to move freely. Jazz or dance shoes are recommended if you have them. Avoid anything that restricts movement or makes it difficult for staff to evaluate your technique.

  • You do not need to prepare a solo, but you will be asked to improv during each audition routine.  

  • Selection is based on a combination of current ability, potential, performance quality, work ethic, adaptability, physicality, musicality, and how each performer contributes to the ensemble. We are looking for performers who can grow with the program and contribute to our creative vision.

  • Not receiving a spot does not mean you aren't a talented performer. Winter Guard programs often have highly competitive auditions with limited positions. Staff may provide feedback or recommendations when possible, and we encourage performers to continue developing their skills and audition again.
